How to Read the Hydrometer

  1. Pour enough liquid into a cylinder so the hydrometer floats freely without touching the sides or bottom.
  2. Allow the hydrometer to settle and stop spinning.
  3. Read the scale at the bottom of the meniscus (the curved liquid surface) at eye level.
  4. The number at the liquid surface line is your density reading in kg/m³.

Note: For most accurate results, measure at the calibration temperature (typically 20°C / 68°F). Density changes with temperature.
